Project description

In 2012, a vigil of adoration of the Eucharist for 40 hours was planned by the Archbishopric of Madrid. The vigil program considered the installation of a chapel for the Eucharistic Exhibition, with a space equally reserved for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Coinciding with these dates Madrid City Council had rented a space for the installation of a cinema in a geodesic dome with an interior projection screen that allowed an immersive experience in the film. The City offered the Archbishopric the use of the dome, something that endowed the occasion with exceptional possibilities as it offered us the cha¬llenge of transforming a magnificent film projection space of 11 meters radius in an audiovisual temple dedicated to the contemplation of the Eucharistic and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
We soon realized that the only possible film for the audiovisual projection of the dome had to consist of the representation of the solar cycle, with its dawn and twilight.
The focus of attention was on the Eucharistic lighthouse. We understood that a certain geometrization of the lighthouse would contribute simultaneously to provide it with a growth law and a certain plastic vibration. The vibration provided by that geometrization to the column, activated in turn by candlelight at the foot of it, sought to evoke the fire of the column described in the book of Exodus (13:21–22).
The dynamics of this project also allowed us to get the design of the prie-dieu and also the garments worn by Madrid Cardinal in the act of placing of the Eucharistic in the Monstrance, opening of the chapel.
During 40 uninterrupted hours the great dome was transformed into a sacred space for the exhibition and adoration of Jesus in the Eucharist. The Monstrance with the Eucharist exhibited on a great lighthouse-exhibitor proclaiming Jesus, Light of the world. The walls of the dome became a great celestial dome that is like an altarpiece to serve the Lord’s presence.
