Project descripÂtion
The comÂplex is locatÂed on the rocky shore of Lake LadoÂga and conÂsists of two chapels locatÂed on natÂurÂal hills and a viewÂing platÂform for pilÂgrims with a cafe, conÂnectÂed by galÂleries and a stone cross in the square in front of the entrance.
The chapels are built of wood in the traÂdiÂtions of the nationÂal archiÂtecÂture of KareÂlia and northÂern RusÂsia and placed on natÂurÂal stone foundations.
The inteÂriÂors look unexÂpectÂed for woodÂen archiÂtecÂture and resemÂble Romanesque churchÂes with eleÂgant stone carvÂings, mosaÂic icons with gold smalt, marÂble and mothÂÂer-of-pearl, and forged iron elements.
The comÂplex is locatÂed on the terÂriÂtoÂry of an ancient monastery, in the area of a natÂurÂal and culÂturÂal reserve, and the author’s main idea was to harÂmoÂniousÂly fit the buildÂing into nature, not to attract much attenÂtion to it, to keep nature and the hisÂtorÂiÂcal buildÂings of the monastery as the main object of attention.
The wood is impregÂnatÂed with anti-rot and fire-preÂvenÂÂtion agents, but is not paintÂed; Over time, it takes on the natÂurÂal colÂor of old wood and blends in with the surÂroundÂing forÂest. And the masonÂry seams are not filled with morÂtar, which gives them a resemÂblance to wild stones on a rocky shore.
