Project descripÂtion
Yangsan Church, estabÂlished in April 1906, reflects its hisÂtorÂiÂcal roots, havÂing been foundÂed by an AusÂtralian misÂsionÂary over a cenÂtuÂry ago. The design of the church forÂmalÂly symÂbolÂizes two hands expressÂing a conÂfesÂsion of faith. The soft curves, which appear to warmÂly embrace, are intendÂed to proÂvide comÂfort to people.
To address the chalÂlenge posed by an overÂpass adjaÂcent to the church site, the design incorÂpoÂrates the city’s flow into the church. The moveÂment path from the first floor to the fourth floor facilÂiÂtates comÂmuÂniÂcaÂtion between the inteÂriÂor and exteÂriÂor spaces. AddiÂtionÂalÂly, sacred light is introÂduced through a wall designed to draw it in, illuÂmiÂnatÂing both the church and the surÂroundÂing community.
